Brake proportioning valve
10 November 2002 by Kerry
tiger Because my donor Sierra had ABS, I didn't have a rear brake pressure limiting valve. Rather than getting one from a scrapyard, I decided to fit an adjustable valve, to allow the rear brakes to be set up properly. It seemed more sensible to mount it at the front of the pipe, under the bonnet, rather than at the back, where it would be hard to get to. Of course, this meant cutting the pipe I'd already fitted to the master cylinder, and flaring the cut ends to attach to the valve.

Disaster nearly struck when I didn't fit the sleeve on the pipe before making the flare, but fortunately after cutting the flare off there was just enough pipe left to make a new one and mount the valve, although I had to elongate the mounting hole quite a bit. That was quite a relief, as I really didn't fancy having to replace the whole pipe running down the tunnel!
