Passenger footwell
6 May 2002 by Kerry
tiger I spent quite a while trying to figure out exactly how the footwell panels were supposed to fit (the manual just says they should be fitted from the engine side, and suggests that you should give some thought to how you're going to bend them into the tunnel area). I decided it would be easier to fit the engine bay finishing panels first (these don't seem to be mentioned at all in the manual).

After making cardboard templates, then lots of fine tuning with a file, I finally had the two passenger side panels fitted. Unfortunately there was a big gap where they should have met, not to mention a triangular hole on the outside, behind the end panel. After much head-scratching, I ended up using one offcut to fill the hole, and folding another in half and riveting it along the gap between the two panels, then covering everything liberally with silicone (I put a bead of sealant all round the inside of the floor while I was at it, which should reduce the chance of getting wet feet). It ended up not looking too bad, but took a lot longer than I'd hoped, so I didn't get time to do the driver's side.
