Tunnel sides
22 October 2002 by Kerry
tiger The tunnel side panels come in two parts for each side, and need a lot of trimming to fit. There are also some very awkward rivet holes to drill, which were made slightly easier by using a flexible drill shaft. Incidentally, I've now finished the pack of 500 rivets that came with the kit, and have started a new box from Screwfix.

The manual contradicts itself, saying at one point that the panels all fit from the passenger compartment side (ie not from inside the tunnel), but later that the front driver's side panel should be fitted on the tunnel side. I did it the first way, which seems to be OK, but doesn't leave much clearance for the clutch pedal. I couldn't have put it on the other side if I'd wanted to, anyway, because I'd already attached the brake pipe along that bit of chassis.

It's pretty important to cut the holes for the seat belt mountings before fitting the panels, and even better if you manage to cut them in the right place first time (unlike me).
